Service Description

Basic Life Support (BLS) Classroom is a traditional Instructor led course that covers one and two rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants. Proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Bag Valve Mask (BVM) is covered along with what to do if someone is choking. A written test will be administered along with a skills assessment during the course. TOPICS COVERED: --Importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival --Steps of the Chain of Survival and BLS concepts --Recognition of the signs of someone needing CPR --Performance of high-quality CPR for an adult, child, and infant CLASS FORMAT: This is a Blended Learning Class Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online at the American Heart Association eLearning website, followed by a hands-on session at Fresh Start CPR. STEP # 1 - eLearning American Heart Association eLearning courses give students the flexibility to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule, anywhere and anytime an internet connection is available. eLearning courses are fully self-directed, and do not require a separate skills testing. STEP #2 - Hands-On Sessions for Skills Practice and Testing at Fresh Start CPR Facility Students must complete a hands-on session to obtain an AHA course completion card. With AHA blended learning, students will practice and test skills to ensure competency during the hands-on session. Hands-on sessions are conducted in person with an Fresh Start CPR Instructor or by using a Voice Assisted Manikin (VAM), where available. These skills sessions focus on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.
